PAST EVENTS
The International Society for Viruses of Microorganisms (ISVM) was established in 2011 as a non-profit organization to facilitate collaboration among researchers, organizations, and companies studying viruses that infect bacteria, archaea, and eukaryotes. We aim to advance the science and use of Viruses of Microbes by fostering networking and learning opportunities.
ISVM supports: The Viruses of Microbes (VoM) conferences are held every second year, initially in Europe but also on other continents, expanding our research borders and community members.
15th to 19th of July 2024
VoM VIII – CAIRNS, AUSTRALIA
The VoM 2024 meeting was a five-day scientific conference that ran from the 15th-19th of July, 2024. The theme for VoM 2024 was ‘Expanding our viral frontiers’.
3rd to 7th of July 2023
VoM VII – Tbilisi, Georgia
The conference served as a platform for discussions on all aspects of studies on viruses of bacteria, archaea, and unicellular eukaryotes, including new views on virus taxonomy, and ranging from the role and diversity of viruses in different ecosystems to the development of virus-inspired new technologies.

VoM VI – Guimarães, Portugal
The meeting spotlighted the most recent advances in ecology and evolution of microbial viruses, virus structures and function, virus-host interaction, agro-food, veterinary and environmental biotechnology applications and phage therapy.
9th to 13th of July 2018
VoM V – Wroclaw, Poland
The central theme of this EMBO Workshop was Viruses of Microbes V: ‘Biodiversity and future applications’ of viruses infecting microbes (algae, archaea, bacteria, fungi, protozoa and viruses).
